BIG 4 - 0

My Aunt turned 40 on the 26th of January,
so i was thrilled to do a cake for her birhtday party on the
22nd of January!

She just loves Orange and Green and so
that was the choice of colour for the party!

I was glad, because i was able to use those vibrant colours on
her birthday cake!

She just adored it!
When i get some pictures of that night, I will post them.

Have a lovely day
Lots of love
(and speaking of love, keep a lookout for my valentines inspiration board coming up!)

Rock 'n Roll 60th Birthday cake

Hi There!

I know i have been very lazy with posting on this blog! But who's counting?
I was asked to make a 60th birthday cake for this past Saturday, Rock 'n roll theme!
Now i was stressed about it, because the cake was travelling 600km to the party in three pieces, and i couldn't stack it myself...but i must say they did a good job at stacking it there...
The top cake is a dummy cake, but the bottom two are real cakes, madeira with vanilla buttercream frosting.
Have a look at the cake...
Here they are, all bare and covered in fondant ready for the finising touches...

The dummy cake, covered in fondant and polka dots

The middle tier - real cake- and covered in fondant, notes and dots...

The bottom tier, real cake, and coveredin fondant, and records -
Mind my tumble dryer in the background...

All boxed up and ready to travel...

And then after the long travel to the party, 600km far...
The guitars are gumpaste guitars..

I am very happy with how it turned out!
Have a nice day!!!

Hello Kitty Cake

Last week i recieved an email, asking if i could bake a cake (hello kitty) for a birthday... and i agreed, a little scared as to how it would turn out... i googled around and found a nice template of hello kitty's face and printed it as big as i wanted the cake to be.

The request was for a chocolate sponge cake with fresh cream, i did the chocolate sponge cake but didn't think the fresh cream would work well as a filling because it would melt and the fondant would fall off. (Its still very warm here even though it is turning into autumn).

So i baked two square 22cm chocolate sponge cakes and let it cool, then wrapped and placed it into the freezer... to make the cutting easier. After 2 hours i took them out and levelled the cakes then sandwiched it together with chocolate buttercream and wrapped and placed in the freezer again. After half an hour i took it out and pinned on the hello kitty template that i printed earlier. I cut out the template and frosted it with white buttercream frosting..so the chocolate sponge wouldn't be seen through the white fondant later on... A crumb coating was fine.

Next it was the fondant's turn to do its magic... i measured the cake and rolled out the fondant accordingly... then placed it over and smoothed it with my cake smoother. Then i added the rest of the face also cut from fondant. For the bow i used a heart cookie cutter and a round cookie cutter. Just cut out two hearts and stick to fondant and then place the round piece over and there you go...(easies bow i've ever done) Then i made sure the eyes, nose and whiskers were in proportion according to the picture/template, added some glitter dust and there you go... one Hello Kitty cake ready for a birthday...(The request was also not to make it look to childish as the recipient was turning 23 so i didn't over do the extras... less is more... i think)

I had sooo much fun with this cake and really happy with the way it turned out... Looking forward to baking my next cake...

Pretty Birthday Butterfly

I Had my first actual Birthday cake to bake the other day, it was for my niece, she is turning 3 on saturday. I was a bit stressed as to how it would turn out but sure enough it looked just fine when it was finished. So here goes... first i baked to 23cm square madeira cakes it was approximately 4cm high then i put it in the freezer for a couple of hours. When i was sure i would be able to cut it nicely i took it out and placed butterfly template over it secured it with pins and cut it out. I then put some apricot jam all over the cake so that the fondant i was going to work with next would stick. I tinted fondant pink, purple and yellow and began rolling, when i was sure it was big enough to go over the cake i placed it over. Then i did the other wing and finally the body. At first i thought it would be quite tricky, but i did the two wings first on the cake board and then i did the yellow body part seperately and then with a spatula i slid it in between the two wings. It worked just fine... Finally i decorated it with some more fondant and made a border with royal icing as well as the antenae... Oh and i also cut the name out of fondant with letter stencils.

Thanx for browsing and have a great day!!!

☺Another Fondant Cake☺

This was a request from a family member, well at least the colour scheme, must say it looks quite colourful. I enjoyed it as usual...☺ I was stressing a bit, because the fondant teared on the one side, but luckily it could be fixed with those nice circles☺Thank goodness for decorations~~~
It actually looks quite African inspired to me...
☺{The stringy bow on top was made from royal icing, and also "glued" to the cake with royal icing. The border was also piped royal icing. It is a chocolate sponge cake, with butter cream icing covered in fondant}☺

Cake baking no.2

Okeee, so then i found out where to buy the fondant, but it is called plastic icing in South Africa, or at least where i bought it... now the first cake i baked, i didnt have a cake roller, have since bought one and i also bought round cake tins cookie cutters and a few other things.

Well, i baked a chocolate cake with chocolate pieces in it... would probably be termed double chocolate cake... and iced it with caramel in the middle and white butter cream icing underneath the fondant...

and here goes...

O i even bought a piping bag with tips and a coupler and did a border, practiced a bit and then gave it a go...
there is also a bit of glitter on the top...edible glitter.
